Back to School: Talking weed at Suffolk Law and Babson MBA
When I graduated from college, I had California dreams on my mind instead of grad school. And as I slogged through my marketing career in my 20s and early 30s, I flirted with the idea of going back to school... but what for? Sure, I "did marketing" but was that my forever? One semester of marketing management at the Harvard Extension School and I was sure I'd never see the inside of a lecture hall again.
Fast-forward to 2019, almost five years into my cannabis marketing career, and I found myself fielding invitations to be a guest lecturer at some heavyweight institutions of higher learning.
Last month, thanks to the kind invitation by attorney and professor Laury Lucien, I got to lecture about the highs and lows of compliant cannabis marketing in front of a class of law students at Suffolk Law in Boston. We talked about the importance of attorneys understanding marketing regulations in Massachusetts since one bad move could doom a company forever. It was a lot of fun!
Tomorrow I go to Babson to share a guest panel with my buddy and cannabis lawyer extraordinaire Blake Mensing. I'm both excited and totally intimidated to tell a group of Babson MBAs what to do, but like everything I do, if I can inspire at least one person in that room to think differently about cannabis or to contribute their brilliance to advancing the industry, my job is done.
